About me and this Site

jack's smile :-))

I, Georg Jakob (aka jack), am a lawyer (but not only). From 2006-08, I was a board member of the Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (or, in short: the FFII - check out action.ffii.org to learn about my current activities there). Until 2005, I worked on the RTN on Fundamental Rights and Private Law in the European Union in Pisa, Italy. Before that, I have been teaching at the Department of Law and Informatics at the Faculty of Law, University of Salzburg, Austria and at the University of Milan - Bicocca, Italy.

The most effective way to contact me is (still) jack@unix.sbg.ac.at. My GnuPG-fingerprint is 9CEF 07FE F965 8443 047D 3725 CD0B 9DAE 9D08 5F1D and you can get my public key, too.

My research interests include work in the following areas:

Publications and conference contributions in those fields can be found in the Law Section. Good news: I've finally managed to upload most of my more recent work; further (incremental) updates will follow. Have a look at it especially if you want to know about Software Patents in Europe, the European Copyright Directive etc. If you interested in these topics, you should also visit the FFII's site, of course.

My lecture on Legal Methodology and Informatics at the University of Salzburg has finished after three successful years in 2003. Details and handouts are still archived in the Lecture Section. Handouts for my 2003 seminar on Diritto D'Autore e Proprieta Industriale (Author's Rights and Industrial Property Law) at the University of Milan, used to be available at the respective group at yahoo (which doesn't exist anymore, since it has been replaced with a mailman list). If you're interested, you can contact me for more information.

You should find some more, hopefully interesting stuff in my Miscancellous and Links Section, too (the latter will be back soon after some updates). If you're interested in the t-shirt on the photo above (and whom it's being given to), go to unix-stuff.de for more information and contact me, if you want one of the few that might still be left. More nice photos showing me and some friends at the Linuxtag 2001 are available, too.

No, there won't be any friggin' CSS and no stinkin' RSS-feed any time soon.
